Outskirts of Everlife
As we get closer to Everlife we start to see buildings that weren’t barricaded, and bodies lying on the road and in the fields of the farms.
This means that whatever killed people radiated out from the city or nearby the city, and the people nearby didn’t have a chance to barricade themselves. The people further out did have a chance to barricade, not that it helped them. From looking at the bodies and the degree of rot, the attack must have happened sometime during the winter.
When we reach the outside of the walled city, we see a flashing light from one of the towers. It is in thieves’ cant, a person using a mirror to transmit a code.
“Run. They have breached the Gate and are in the city.”
Berdyn takes out his mirror and communicates with the person in the city. From what he learned, the gate nearest to the Necropolis was sundered, all the priests were killed, and the nobility had fled to the South. The city of 50,000 people had been murdered and eaten down to a few thousand, all living in secluded separate pockets of the city.
If the undead came from the Necropolis, then it stands to reason there was something there to rouse them. We resolve to camp an hour or two away from the city and explore the Necropolis tomorrow, to find out what happened.
