Everlife Return Three

LastHaven

Bale and I speak to Rhogar – Bale to tithe money to the Orphanage, and Codex to tell Rhogar about what he has found out about Epiphany.  He tells me that Epiphany mentioned her trek to the Citadel, but Rhogar didn’t really understand it.

We use a Sending to Michael, who tells us what he needs, magic weapons, healing supplies, holy symbols of Pelor, and clerical supplies. We get all of that from Vestian. He also asks for food that isn’t rations. We get some of that too.

Everlife

We then use teleportation circle to get into Everlife.  We find ourselves underground. There is a passage to the sewers, and a side room with a ladder to get upstairs.

The passage to the sewers has a means to bar it from opening, which we use.  After we do that, the door is tested by … something.  When we unbar it and open the door, we find nothing but fresh footsteps.

Upstairs the house is nice, a noble house in the Merchant section of the city.  We quickly discover this is the Neufeld house, the home of Elliott and Mrs. Neufeld, one of Pyrrhos Alegan’s paramours and bastards.  All valuables are gone, it looks like they were warned well in advance, with all the Nobles.

We head out, and we reach the noble section. We see that the giant hole in the outer wall of the city has been partially barricaded, and a number of the bodies have been removed.  There’s even animals, birds and squirrels.  The city is slowly being cleared of undead.

We speak to Michael and he tells us of some troubles inside the city. He is grateful for the magic weapons, the food and the clerical items.

He tells us about a specific issue of something residing within Rin Bluewolf’s house.  We go to investigate.  It turns out the house contains a Soul Monger.

The Soul Monger is part of the group known as the Shadar-Kai – once elves that now follow the Raven Queen. They seek out choice souls and tragedies for the Raven Queen. They are part of the Shadowfell, and are joyless and mournful.

The Soul Mongers crave the vitality of others.  Manifesting as an unbearable weight in it’s presence.

It says in Elven “You are not who paid me” and attacks.  A nasty fight ensues, and Berdyn almost dies to a Finger of Death attack.  Eventually, we kill it.  And we find a letter.

The letter proves that Sabre Khaludz hired the Soul Monger to assassinate the people of the Spire. It was to target specifically Albrect and Michael, but others were a target of opportunity.

In addition, melded into the skin of the Soul Monger was another ring of Vecna, that Kraken detected. Berdyn confirmed – there is a scent of rancid oil to the rings.

We show the letter to Michael, who confirms that no messages has been sent to Everlife from Kingstown. They have been abandoned.

We head to the Pyre, a little ways away from the northwestern entrance to the city.

Crea is Albrect’s acolyte, and she has been chosen by Pelor to be a Cleric.  She is helping Albrect to give final rites and burn the bodies in a massive pyre.

Crea and Albrect are looked over by the Kingdom of the Tiger swordsmen. Some of the Kingdom of the Tiger remained on their grounds, to maintain their ownership of that piece of land.  They have been helping the Everlife warriors.

Albrect is very tired. We convince him to take a bit of a break and take over for a while.  Codex quietly restores his exhaustion.  We show proof of Sabre Khaludz’ attempt to assassinate Albrect, and he sadly accepts it.

We take the evening to rest, and plan to take on the Ghasts tomorrow
