Scorched Marshes

Located at the confluence of rivers Kiera and Sallow, what is now known as Scorched Marches was once a vibrant, yet foul, place full of buzzing life. Centuries ago, this swamp was contained to its naturally predestined location and was not remarkable in any way, its small population of morruk dwellers being reined in by the might of the seraphon forces with their base to the west. However, once the might of the lizardmen failed and their presence in the region vanished, the morruks, whose waring ability has been bolstered by the ceaseless war with the seraphon, rose in number unheard of and quickly spread way beyond the confines of their swamp. Their very presence polluted the land and the swamp spread far and wide, their swampcallas binding the very nature with their foul rituals. What was once dangerous, yet relatively normal part of the Ravaged Coast, has turned into the land of nightmare for all the civilised races of the Mortal Realms called the Foulwater Marshes.

For centuries, throughout the Age of Chaos and an the Age of Sigmar, the swamp grew and with it, the might of its masters, the kruleboyz who were now united into a gigantic clan called the Skulldrinkerz, whose foul culture often became too vile even to the members of their own race. Despite this, or maybe because of it, the clan remained undefeated and in its heyday, the marshes spread al the way from Gloamwater summit in the West, to the abandoned ports in the far east. In the north, the Sylvaneth protected woods remained free of the swamp, though in the south, those unfortunate souls who would dwell in the Ashen Cairn could see the swamp drawing near.

Then came Vermindoom, and the endless hordes of ratmen wiped out the depraved clan in an instant, the swamp instantly shrinking. Thus, through great irony, skaven had cleansed far swathes of land. The swamps that remained became polluted by chaos and endless warpfires burned in the now broken land. Though diminished in size, the swamps are now arguably even more dangerous place then before. The old binding spells of morruks still hold and should they fall to chaos magic, where once were the swamps, chaos blighted landscape could now lay. Maybe that was the intent of the skaven all along. Still, the former denizens of the swamp have not given up and now, unburdened by the failings of their predecessor, various factions of greenskins vie for control over the land, hoping to undo the damage done by the skaven. Though their victory will be of small comfort to the beleaguered forces of order...
