Aldmer was a cabin boy on a pirate ship from the age of ten until neatly twenty, when he would have become a full fledged pirate. Just a few weeks weeks shy of this momentous occasion, the ship was attacked and the entire crew was gleefully attacked by another pirate ship who flew the colors of ally. Aldmer's throat was slit from behind while trying to protect his captain, and he was unceremoniously thrown overboard. As he went over, his captain used fey trickery to teleport off the ship, leaving his crew to be slaughtered.
Bleeding, he grabbed a piece of driftwood. He floated aimlessly for days, until he washed up on the shore of a small coral atoll.
The then-Crown Princess Neried found the sailor near death, and took him down to Arvandor to recover.
It was a decision that nearly cost her the crown, but Neried held firm that she saw the kind heart that lay beneath his gruff exterior.
Aldmer recovered, but his voice was gone forever. Grateful to the Queen for his salvation, he renounced his Oleather citizenship, pledging his fealty and life to Arvandor.
The next few years were difficult, as he struggled to communicate. Slowly, he learned the Arvandor language of signs, normally used underwater to communicate.
He and Neried grew closer, striking up a friendship, which turned into something more.
A slow courtship followed, along with the accompanying scandal. The Court was horrified by a rough, unlettered barbarian wooing a member of the royal family.
Eventually love won out, and they were wed. Aldmer threw himself into learing the necessary skills for a Prince Consort.
Soon after their marriage @King Wellescale passed and Aldmer was thrust into the role of politician, a mantle that never set easily upon his shoulders.
Soon after the twins were born, the marriage began to strain under the pressure. Aldmer felt ill-prepared for the tasks placed upon him and renounced the throne, happily taking charge of the care of the twins.
Now that the twins have Chosen, and reached the age of majority, Aldmer feels adrift and detached from his family. He has withdrawn, and no longer shares the communal bedchamber with Neried.
