Fetchlings are greyscale humanoids most common in the westermost regions of the empire. They are considered those who were untouched by Serenae’s light, and are feared as practitioners of the occult. They have historically had a rocky relationship with both the church and the Imperial Government due to their persistence in worshiping older and true gods rather than worshiping the in the forms acceptable to the church. Many worship Vannara which while mistrusted is still technically allowable within the church, some others worship Korrodin or Serenae though often in ways which the church may consider heretical. Some too worship other, older gods which have been mostly forgotten outside their communities. They still know the fear of Eir, and many take rituals to appease him seriously, which is illegal under church law. The worship of true gods is a dangerous practice, which can be destructive of the self. Many fear that when pulling close to such an absolute power it is easy to lose one's self and become a monstrosity, and the common knowledge is that the worship of true gods requires, invariably, blood. Fetchling communities usually prefer to keep to themselves, distant and forgotten by the imperial government. Attempts by the church or government to reign in Fetchling practices have historically led to revolt and insurgency, something the government has taken to attempting to avoid. Reporters who claim to have slipped into Fetchling cities claim that human sacrifice occurs openly in the streets in some places which, true or not, has not helped the trust of fetchlings by others. While some Fetchlings live in rural communities, Fetchlings also have cities. The newly elected chancellor has highlighted these reports to argue the government has willfully turned a blind eye to these abominations. Fetchlings most commonly use Welsh, Czech, or Polish names.
