House Dimvari

"Never met a Dimvari I liked, they're all self-centered assholes from what I can tell... But damn do they make a quality wagon."
- Customer of Dimvari Wagon Co.

The family of Renrath Dimvari, made famous by their illustrious wagon manufacturing business, Dimvari Wagon Co. based in Baldur’s Gate. With a family history riddled with tragedy and misfortune, it's no wonder there isnt a single person in the whole city who has anything positive to say about them.

History

Beginnings (957 - 1022)

The Dimvari family has always been full of swindlers and crooks since the dawn of its existence. Rising to nobility through his illustrious "healing wax" candles, Bilkran Dimvari is named the father of House Dimvari. (Local myths claim that members of the Dimvari family must say a prayer to their great ancestor Bilkran every night, but this has neither been confirmed nor denied.) Bilkran's famous "healing wax" candles were, of course, a scam, like most of the other fraudulent products he sold. Tarrasque-leather purses, Mind Flayer-repellant spray, and the ever-so-sought-after Mystical De-Aging cream (made from only the land's finest giant spit and bullywug slime), to name a few.

Convincing the cities' nobility to unknowingly rub giant spit on their faces every night, Bilkran Dimvari had Baldur's Gate by the balls. House Dimvari thrived into a prominent noble house in Baldur's Gate, where it would remain for decades to come. Bilkran, while his legacy remains strong to this day, his physical presence was not long for this world. In 1022, a wagon containing him, his wife, and their pregnant daughter was thrown off a cliff while the group was out peasant-watching, killing everyone inside. Bilkran, just days prior, had publicly slandered Baldur's Gate Mayor Moralwood Schittpitt, a suspected cultist and crime syndicate boss, calling him a freak and a "big-bellied loud-mouthed pig-fucker". The accident was quickly ruled an act of natural causes, but proud supporters of the Dimvari family still claim to this day that other darker forces were at play, likely involving Mayor Schittpitt. For more info about this event, see The Bilkran Dimvari Silencing Conspiracy.

Middle Era (1021 - 1463)

Zevithar Dimvari, the first and only son of Bilkran, took over the House of Dimvari after the deaths of his father, mother, sister, and nephew. The middle years of the House Dimvari are not as well documented as the others, as after Bilkran's death, the noble house fell into obscurity. The family was still a proud noble house, deeply involved in the politics of Baldur's Gate, but without the loud and boisterous Bilkran as a figurehead, they simply could not maintain the presence they once had.

It was in these years that the family became somewhat of an urban legend around the streets of Baldur's Gate. After Bilkran's passing, the family experienced a series of misfortunes and tragedies, leading others to label them 'haunted' or 'cursed'. Dimvari Children were mocked and ridiculed, and anyone donning the last name of Dimvari was avoided at all costs, out of fear of catching whatever curse they had placed on them. After this moment, the Dimvaris isolated themselves within their manor, only surfacing when attending public council meetings.

Of the surviving documents detailing the tragic ends of certain Dimvari members, all notable happenings are listed below:

1068 - Zevithar Dimvari is struck in the head by a decorative anvil that was on display right above their dining table, ultimately killing him.

1069 - Just a year after Zevithar's untimely fate, Vamadr, wife of Zevithar, fell ill and passed in her sleep with what doctors called "the disease that kills you."

1105 - Emsaf, son-in-law of Zevithar, was overcome with what he described as a "strange otherworldly urge" to have an affair with one of their maids.

1106 - Vesha, daughter of Zevithar, had seemingly gone mad and killed her husband Emsaf and one of their maids, shortly after his story went public. Historians are unsure what could have caused this state of mind, other than the curse.

1147 - Bignosefurrybottom, prized dog of the Dimvari family, passed away after only 13 years of age. Historians to this day use this as solid evidence of the curse, as according to them, dogs usually live to 14.

1201 - The southern wing of the Dimvari Manor burns down after the figurehead of the house, Lord Geslitvad, developed a keen interest in spellcasting and cantrips. Historians believe this was seemingly a warning from the darkness that haunts their bloodline against the family becoming spellcasters.

1292 - After nearly 100 years of no curse activity, Fuhash, noble daughter of the house, fell in love with and married a Tiefling. The involvement of the curse with this event is highly debated, but Renrath Dimvari, current lord of the house, swears by it.

1340 - Bebror Goonsek, butler of the Dimvari Family, leaked evidence of Nilgef Dimvari, wife of lord-at-the-time Roldom Dimvari, having an affair with another man. Bebror claims this was not due to the curse, but historians think otherwise.

1340 - After Bebror's leaks went public, both he and Nilgef fell ill with what doctors called "the disease that makes you scream 'ahh help he has a knife he's trying to kill me please someone help' and then die". These are the only two reported cases of this disease appearing in all of Faerun, so historians take this as ironclad evidence of the curse's existence.

1401 - Little Timmy Dimvari tripped on a rock and got a boo-boo. Historians were horrified that the curse would affect children, as up until this point, it had only affected adults.

1463 - Renrath Dimvari, current lord of House Dimvari, got severely injured during the War of the Divine, causing him to walk with a permanent limp.

1479 - Sylhope Coxaris, Wife of Don Stormbreaker (born Grimveld Dimvari), was slain by an unknown assailant in their home in Waterdeep.

Golden Era (1463 - Present)

The current Lord of the noble house is Renrath Dimvari. In 1463 after returning home from the War of the Divine, a brutal war in the jungles of Chult, Renrath decided what the world needed most was wagons. Why he was given this notion, no one is sure. Using some of his great ancestor Bilkran's signature sales techniques, Ranrath's wagons skyrocketed in sales. "Faster than the demogorgon", "invisible to werebears", and "occasionally smells of roses sometimes" were just a few of the slogans he'd say. Now, with the curse a distant folktale, citizens of Baldur's Gate were no longer afraid to associate with the Dimvari name. Wagon sales soared higher than even Bilkran had achieved, placing the Dimvari name once again at the best of the best in Baldur's Gate Nobility.

The War of the Divine

The War of the Divine was a brutal war in Chult from 1463 to 1465. The war was against the Children of the Divine, a tiefling-run cult threatening to spread their misshapen ideals to other parts of Faerun. Don Stormbreaker, at the time Grimveld Dimvari, enlisted himself and his brother Renrath to fight in the war. Renrath was sent home early due to an injury. Grimveld, believing his brother to be dead and guilty for being the reason he was there, took it upon himself to single-handedly lead a platoon into the cult's main base of operations and assassinate their leader. This event, known as the Great Push, ended the war and made Grimveld a hero.

Closing Remarks

"It is bemusing how a house which has never been mentioned in a single story, and has only bred a single member who has completed their story, can have so much lore and writing. It would appear someone has way too much time on their hands."
