Dutch immigrant Dr. Ambrose Willard was hired to construct the mansion and grounds that would become Willard Asylum and incorporated a number of hidden rooms and passageways in the buildings which would later become a security nightmare. One of these passageways led to a tunnel that connected to the complex Hartman Mines tunnel system
