- According to a lore book that Tyrion read, and stories that Peter's guardian spirits told, Othar was voluntarily imprisoned under the ice with The One Who Lurks Beneath the Ice. Othar coiled around the great dragon in an attempt to keep him from escaping.
- Some religious scholars believe that Othar is an aspect of the draconic deity Ymryntor, if not Ymryntor outright.
Othar was the god of the wind, the sea, and the storm in the old Irkasian Pantheon. He was often depicted as an enormous sea serpent, though he would sometimes take the form of a man with wild hair and electricity crackling over his skin. Worship of Othar has diminished since the rise of Irkasy's newest religion; in modern times, his name is usually only spoken by old sailors and coastal folk.
