Saisho the Great, sometimes called the Golden Lion or the First Samurai, was the first samurai. Saisho's origin is unknown, with tales ranging from her being a foreigner, to a demigod, to a peasant woman, to a warrior monk, to a god. Nonetheless, she appears on the historical record circa III 1350. Saisho was the originator of many of the classical elements of modern samurai culture, though it is speculated by many loremasters that many gradual developments and innovations of the samurai tradition were retroactively applied and credited to her. She married Emperor Tarohito had seventeen children, each of whom was married to a major clan.
