The Taqwim (Celestial for "Calendar") is the calendar used by most of El-Bayir. The Taqwim was compiled by the astronomers of the old Deshenite KingdomIn the Taqwim, a year lasts 360 days, split into twelve 30-day months.

Years

The Taqwim has years of 360 days length. Years in the Taqwim are counted in two ways: their universal count and the age count.

The universal count starts at the creation of Deshen, which occurred on 1/1/0001. In the Universal count, a year is counted in years since the creation of Deshen. As of Malagazh's War, it had been 8200 years since the Worldshaping.

The age count starts at the beginning of the most recent Age of the World, which is denoted by a roman numeral before the year. As of Malagazh's War, the world had just entered the 400th Year of the Fifth Age, or V 400.

In normal life, the age year is more practical and common, however many scholars and loremasters prefer the universal count due to its completeness.

Months

Each month begins with the first rising of the crescent moon. Month names are derived from Celestial, with a very broad adjective given to the month by the ancients combined with the suffix "-mah," meaning month. It is common practice to drop the "-mah."

The seventh day is named for Deshen, whose divinity is debated. Some cultures omit the name of the ninth day, styling it "Hofday," a combination of the Celestial word "Hof" (meaning "seventh") and the Common word "day."
