Great Bazaar

Neighborhood

The Great Bazaar is the largest market in both Kardunash and the world. It is a gargantuan open-air maze of vendors' stalls, shops, booths, inns, taverns, guilds, tradehouses, moneychangers' offices, and other places of business and commerce. The Bazaar is active in all hours of the day, with gold flowing in and out even in the darkest hours of the night. Merchants from across the world make (or lose) their fortunes in the winding alleys and stalls of the Bazaar. The Bazaar was built gradually over the millennia of Kardunashi history, therefore creating a jumbled mess of alleys in lieu of any proper streets. Pickpocketing and theft is common in the Bazaar, as the sheer crowd makes it easy to snatch coinpurses from loose pockets.

A saying goes that "Anything may be bought or sold in the Great Bazaar." While slavery is illegal in Kardunash, many have noted that the hoplites are hard-pressed to even try and make their way through the tangle of backstreets and alleyways, making the Bazaar a much more lawless and dangerous place than other parts of the Old City.

The alleys here are thin, only wide enough for three people standing shoulder to shoulder, creating a near constant backup of foot traffic.
