Wyverns, often called False Dragons or Drakes, are flying reptilian creatures which are related to Dragon.
Appearance and Characteristics
Wyverns are scaled reptilian creatures, with two wings and hind legs. Wyverns grow for their entire lives. When they hatch, they are roughly the size of a puppy, while the largest known wyvern was large enough to swallow a Unknown whole. Wyvern live for many centuries. The oldest known wyvern lived to be a thousand years old. The most notable visual distinction between dragons and wyverns is the wyverns’ lack of feathers
Wyverns are often mistaken for dragons, as they are more numerous. As such, usually when someone refers to having seen a dragon, they actually saw a wyvern.
Unlike dragons, wyverns are not sentient and tend to eat carnivorously, hunting animals and sometimes even people. Though lacking sentience, wyverns are intelligent and can be tamed, though the process is incredibly dangerous and difficult. Magic is often involved in the bonding and training process. When tamed, wyverns form a strong bond with their rider which persists until death.
