Sarktahno

Election

The Sarktahno was the method by which the Lords of the Kingdom of the Y'kanos met to elect their King or Queen. Each lord held five votes, which they could distribute as they wished, while landed knights held one vote. A sarktahno would be called upon the death of the reigning monarch, with the lords of the realm meeting at holyground to debate and elect a monarch. If no decision was reached within three weeks, a king would be chosen randomly by lot. While technically anyone was allowed to be nominated, the candidates were usually limited to lords and the occasional very renowned knights.

Following the Conquest of the Y'kanos by Pelegon I, he allowed the Y'kanosi lords to hold a final sarktahno, remembered by history as the Karsh'sarktahno, to select the first King of Bark and Pine. However, as Pelegon had decreed that the new province of the Y'kanos would be a hereditary monarchy, this meant that the sarktahno was functionally abolished.
