The Mother's Blood, also called the River of the Mother, the Water of the Mother, the Blood of the Mother, the Mother's Mercy, or the Great River, is the primary river of the Motherlands, to which it lends its name. The river is one of the longest in the world, and feeds the entirety of the region. It has several tributaries and minor rivers which form its great system.

The primary stretch of the Mother's Blood is wide and fairly easy to navigate.

Mythology

The mythology of the Riverfolk holds that, in ancient times, the Ba'hram Desert extended out past its current boundaries and into the coast. The precursors of the Riverfolk prayed to their Goddess, whom they called the Mother, for relief, as they suffered under the oppressive desert sun. The Mother heard and took pity on Her people, petrifying herself within the Morktan Mountains and becoming the source of the river. In some tellings, the river is her tears of grief for her people and in others she slashed her wrists and/or chest open to release a stream of divine blood which became the river. Due to this, the Mother's Mountain is a major holy site for the Riverfolk and many make a pilgrim to ascend its peak and commune with their goddess.
