Location: Near the courthouse, nestled in the Royal District. Its polished façade and golden sign project refinement, drawing in the city’s judges, lawyers, and high-ranking officials.

Atmosphere:

Quiet, refined, and respectable. The Silver Chalice smells of spiced wine and old parchment. Patrons talk in hushed voices, though laughter rises occasionally from judges drunk on their own cleverness. A mural of Selûne pouring wine dominates the back wall, its starry background subtly enchanted to shimmer under candlelight.

Staff

Maelira Starbloom (Barkeep & Spymaster)

•             Outwardly: A cranky old elf woman with silver hair in a severe bun, known for her sharp tongue and no-nonsense service.

•             Secretly: A cunning spymaster running one of the most effective intelligence networks in Lygos. Her tavern is her headquarters.

•             Personality: Gruff but calculating; she’s everyone’s grandmother until you realize she knows your darkest secret.

•             Quote: “You lawyers argue your truths in daylight. Me? I collect mine in the shadows.”

•             Tactics: Maelira never leaves the tavern, but she never needs to — information flows straight to her. She passes tidbits along to factions, nobles, or even the king when it suits her purposes.

Barmaids (Her “Eyes”)

•             Young, beautiful, diverse (human, half-elf, tabaxi, tiefling). Their charm disarms patrons into talking freely.

•             Trained to listen more than they speak. They flirt, laugh, and encourage loose tongues, then quietly memorize everything.

•             After closing each night, they report to Maelira in a private upstairs room, where she records it all in coded ledgers.

Role in Lygos

•             Gossip Clearinghouse: Almost every trial, scandal, or political move is gossiped about here first.

•             Blackmail Vault: Maelira has secrets on nearly every noble house, judge, and guild. She keeps these records hidden in multiple caches.

•             Faction Broker: While she prefers neutrality, Maelira trades information to whomever pays — or whom she favors. She’s careful never to overplay her hand.

Plot Hooks

1.            The PCs notice a barmaid’s slip-up — repeating something they never said aloud. Do they confront her or play along?

2.            A noble hires the party to recover stolen love letters — but they’re locked away in Maelira’s coded ledgers.

3.            The City Watch suspects Maelira of spying and pressures the PCs to investigate. But she has dirt on them, too.

4.            During the siege, the Silver Chalice becomes a hub of clandestine negotiation — factions vying for Maelira’s favor to decide which side survives.

Rumors & Hooks

•             A judge has been overheard planning to take bribes in an upcoming trial. The barmaids know who, but won’t say without incentive.

•             A clerk dropped a scroll case after too much wine. Inside: evidence from a case that never went to trial.

•             Maelira insists she once served King Arius himself, though she won’t say what he drank — or who he was with.

•             The tavern’s mural of Selûne pouring wine is said to have been painted by a mad prophet, and its star patterns change slightly each season.
