Bullywug Enclave

Hidden in a damp cavern system behind the cliffs of Lygos lies a colony of Bullywugs, largely unknown to the city above. The only approach is through twisting tunnels and flooded passages where the sea seeps inland, creating a perpetual mire. The air is thick with the stench of brackish water, and the croak of unseen throats echoes endlessly through the shadows.

The colony itself sprawls across a series of wide, low caverns where pools of murky water dominate the ground. Makeshift reed huts and mud-mounded nests cling to the edges of these pools, connected by slippery log walkways and rope bridges. Glow-fungi and lichen paint the stone walls with ghostly light, casting the bullywugs into eerie silhouette as they hop between their dwellings.

The bullywugs live in tight-knit tribal bands, their hierarchy ruled by the loudest and most ambitious voices. Chieftains rise and fall with alarming regularity, often challenged during frenzied, croaking ceremonies in the main gathering chamber. There, a crude stone idol of Umberlee, adorned with shells and fish bones, serves as the spiritual heart of the colony.

Though primitive in appearance, the bullywugs are not without cunning. They raise amphibious mounts in their pools, breed poisonous frogs for warfare, and collect shiny objects scavenged from wrecks and stolen from the city above. Their relationship with Lygos is uneasy—some bullywugs raid fishing boats or sneak into the sewers, while others trade secretly with daring smugglers. Much depends on the temper of their current chieftain.

For adventurers, the colony is both a threat and an opportunity. Within its damp halls may lie strange treasures dredged from the sea, potential allies in the coming siege, or dangers that could spill into the city should the bullywugs be provoked.
