Quiver

Messenger

Race: Quickling (Fey)
Affiliation:
Salty Sisters
Role: Courier of Assassination Orders and Confidential Messages
Personality: Mischievous, Blunt, Amoral, Unpredictable

Appearance:

Quiver is a blur of motion, often nothing more than a flicker of movement in the corner of the eye. When she does slow down (usually just for the drama of it), she reveals herself as a diminutive, wiry fey creature, standing no taller than a halfling’s knee. Her skin shimmers with a faint bluish hue, like moonlight on water, and her white, pupil-less eyes gleam with perpetual mischief. Sharp features—a pointed nose, angular chin, and dagger-like teeth—make her look both whimsical and unsettling.

She wears patchwork leathers stitched from scraps of dark fabrics, perfectly aerodynamic for her lightning-fast movements. Tiny daggers and trinkets dangle from her belt, though she rarely uses them—her speed is her deadliest weapon.

Personality:

Quiver is the embodiment of chaotic neutrality: mischievous, irreverent, and utterly indifferent to the mortal squabbles she facilitates. She treats assassination orders with the same casualness as someone delivering grocery lists. Morality? She couldn’t care less.

  • Blunt Honesty: She’ll openly admit to delivering kill orders without flinching. If questioned, she shrugs and says, “Why do I care what happens outside of the Fey?”

  • Gleefully Annoying: Loves to taunt and mock both friends and foes, speaking in riddles or rhymes when it’s most inconvenient.

  • Unpredictable: Might help or hinder the players on a whim, purely for her own amusement.

Despite her carefree attitude, Quiver is fiercely loyal to the Salty Sisters, viewing them as the most entertaining group of mortals she’s ever worked with.

Abilities:

  • Blinding Speed: Quiver moves faster than the eye can follow, capable of delivering messages, stealing items, or evading capture with ease. Mechanically, she can take multiple actions in a single round, and disengages as a free action.

  • Sudden Appearance: Quiver can seemingly appear out of thin air, often startling people mid-conversation or vanishing the second she’s bored.

  • Fey Step: She can teleport short distances, adding to the impossibility of tracking her.

Role in Gameplay:

  • Quest Giver (If Allied with the Salty Sisters): Players working with the Sisters receive assignments, assassination contracts, or secret messages directly from Quiver. She’ll appear without warning, drop the information, and disappear before anyone can ask too many questions.

  • Elusive Target (If Opposing the Salty Sisters): Trying to catch or track Quiver is an exercise in frustration. She’s nearly impossible to pin down unless players set a clever trap or exploit her fey curiosity. Even if captured, she’s more likely to mock her captors than provide useful intel.

  • Potential Plot Twist: Quiver could be persuaded (with the right leverage) to betray the Salty Sisters—but only if it promises more chaos and entertainment than her current job.

Key Relationships:

  • The Salty Sisters: Quiver sees them as delightful agents of chaos. She enjoys the drama of their schemes and treats their murders as part of an entertaining story.

  • The Players: Whether friend or foe, Quiver finds the players amusing. She may even play harmless pranks on them between missions, just to keep things interesting.

Quotes:

  • “Ah, a message for you… or was it a threat? Honestly, I forget.”

  • “You mortals get so worked up about who lives and dies. It’s exhausting. Have a snack or something.”

  • “Catch me? Darling, I’ve outrun shadows and shot arrows. But sure, give it your best.”

Adventure Hooks:

  • The Uncatchable Courier: Players are hired to intercept Quiver before she can deliver a crucial assassination order. Catching her requires creative traps, magical tricks, or outwitting her love for games.

  • The Fey Bargain: Quiver holds knowledge of an ancient fey secret tied to Lygos, but she’ll only reveal it if the players beat her in a challenge—one that’s rigged in her favor.

  • Double Trouble: If the players gain her favor (or annoy her enough), Quiver may deliver conflicting messages to both sides of a conflict, sowing chaos for her own amusement.

Quiver the Quickling is the perfect mix of comic relief, fey menace, and chaotic wildcard. Whether she’s a frustrating enemy or an unreliable ally, she’s sure to leave a lasting impression on the streets of Lygos.
