“The sea don’t wash off blood — it just makes room for more.”
Flagship of the Goblin Corsair Admiral Grimeye the Red, feared scourge of the Whitespray Strait.
1. Krag Vult-Eye
Hobgoblin Ballista Master
Role: Master Gunner — oversees the ship’s artillery batteries.
Appearance: Broad-shouldered, orange-skinned hobgoblin with one milky eye and a collection of iron bolts strapped across his chest like trophies. His hands are always blackened with powder and oil.
Personality: Calm, efficient, terrifyingly precise. He never shouts, never misses, and never apologizes. Treats his ballista like a lover — named it “Whisperfang.”
Mannerisms:
-
Chews gunpowder pellets instead of tobacco.
-
Mutters range calculations under his breath, even while drinking.
-
Carries a coin carved from a cannonball fragment for “luck.”
Reputation: “Best shot in the Goblin Navy” — rumor says he once sank a fleeing sloop from half a mile away, through fog and rain.
Quote:
“The sea forgives mistakes. I don’t.”
2. Skrik “Crow-Bite”
Goblin Lookout and Boarding Scavenger
Role: Lookout, rigger, and sky-born saboteur.
Appearance: Short even for a goblin, wiry and green, with jagged teeth and a patchwork bandana patterned with feathers. His eyes are huge and yellow, perfect for spotting sails on the horizon.
Personality: Twitchy, loud, and gleefully violent. He claims to “see farther than any crow and bite harder than one too.” When battle starts, he drops from the rigging like a spider, biting throats before his feet hit the deck.
Mannerisms:
-
Constantly gnaws on anything near his mouth — ropes, nails, even his own gloves.
-
Sleeps upside down in the rigging.
-
Laughs in quick, sharp bursts — “Kek-kek-kek!”
Reputation: Known to have literally bitten a man’s nose off mid-fight and kept it in a pouch as a souvenir.
Quote:
“From up there, everyone looks like lunch.”
3. Gorb “The Gut” Skarn
Goblin Boarding Bruiser
Role: First over the rail, last off the deck. Boarding leader and brawler.
Appearance: Towering (for a goblin), nearly six feet of gut and gristle. His bulk is deceptive — he moves with surprising speed. Twin scimitars hang from his belt, nicked and dull but deadly in his hands. His belly bears an old tattoo: a grinning skull devouring a ship.
Personality: Bombastic, fearless, and grotesquely cheerful. He charges into combat screaming jokes about his victims’ weight, height, or fashion choices, cackling like a demon as blood sprays.
Mannerisms:
-
Constantly licks his blades clean — a disturbing sight.
-
Calls every fight “a dinner invitation.”
-
Has a habit of clapping terrified enemies on the back right before gutting them.
Reputation: Claims to have eaten a Merfolk's heart “for balance.” No one’s sure if he’s joking.
Quote:
“Ain’t a man alive who can out-eat, out-drink, or out-kill me!”
4. Vexa Hooktide
Female Goblin Harpooner & Widowmaker
Role: Harpooner, deck warrior, and occasional executioner.
Appearance: Lean, muscular, with sea-salt hair bleached almost white and eyes the color of barnacle shells. Her face bears a long scar from chin to temple — a gift from her third husband. She wears a string of wedding rings and shark teeth on a necklace.
Personality: Dryly sarcastic and brutally pragmatic. She flirts like she fights — directly, dangerously, and without mercy. Her loyalty lies only with the Rustfang and her own survival.
Weapons:
-
Barbed harpoon with a coiled rope for pulling victims off balance or overboard.
-
Jagged dagger named “Marry Me.”
Mannerisms:
-
Always hums old sailor’s songs about love and murder.
-
Flicks her dagger between fingers when bored.
-
Winks before she stabs.
Reputation: Every husband she’s ever taken has “fallen overboard” during storms. The crew jokes that the sea is jealous of her affections.
Quote:
“I told him I’d love him till death did us part. I’m just punctual, is all.”
5. Thalos the Drowned Fang
Feral Triton Saboteur & Spy
Role: Scout, saboteur, and underwater assassin.
Appearance: Gaunt and scarred, his once-blue skin mottled with patches of pale gray. His gills twitch constantly, and his teeth are filed into points. Seaweed cords and coral shards decorate his armor, and he carries a wicked coral knife that never rusts.
Personality: Quiet, brooding, utterly inhuman in demeanor. He rarely speaks above a whisper, but when he does, his voice gurgles like waves over gravel. He despises “surface breathers,” yet serves Grimeye out of debt or shared malice.
Mannerisms:
-
Submerges himself in barrels of seawater to “think.”
-
Carries seashells full of enemy blood as trophies.
-
Clicks his teeth rhythmically when angry — a warning few live to hear twice.
Abilities:
-
Can stay underwater indefinitely.
-
Specializes in swimming beneath enemy ships and cutting holes in the hull just before battle.
-
Rumored to drag wounded sailors beneath the waves to “feed the deep.”
Reputation: Exiled from his oceanic homeland for murdering a royal envoy. To this day, sea elves call him “Shame of the Depths.”
Quote:
“The sea remembers every corpse. I just help her collect.”
Crew Dynamics & Tone
The Rustfang’s deck is a brutal meritocracy — Grimeye rules through fear and respect, and these five are his elite killers. They argue, brawl, and drink constantly, but when the order to board comes, they move like clockwork.
Each of them owes Grimeye a debt — gold, blood, or mercy — and that loyalty runs deeper than fear. On the sea, they are a storm: chaotic, cruel, and unstoppable.
