Tempest Wraith

The Tempest Wraith

Stormy’s ship, The Tempest Wraith, is a sleek and deadly brigantine that dominates the Whitespray Strait. With its black sails emblazoned with a ghostly white kraken, the ship is as much a symbol of fear as it is a vessel.

  • Design: The Tempest Wraith is built for speed and maneuverability, allowing it to outpace most naval ships. Its hull is reinforced with dark wood and steel plating, making it capable of withstanding heavy fire. The figurehead is a snarling sea serpent carved from ivory, said to have been taken from a real creature Stormy slew in her early days.

  • Armaments: The ship bristles with weaponry, including enchanted ballistae and cannonades capable of launching explosive projectiles. Its arsenal is carefully maintained by Stormy’s loyal crew.

  • Crew: The crew of the Tempest Wraith is a motley assortment of cutthroats, adventurers, and outcasts from all races and backgrounds, united by their loyalty to Stormy. They respect her not only for her leadership but also for the equal share she offers in their

Crew of the Tempest’s Wraith

1. “Scales” — The Kobold Cook

Name: Scales (he dropped his real name after a kitchen explosion in his youth)
Race: Kobold
Role: Cook
Personality: Cheerful, oblivious, and proud of his “culinary masterpieces.” He believes that as long as food is hot, hearty, and doesn’t kill you immediately, it’s a success.
Description: Barely three feet tall, with soot-black scales and a chef’s hat far too big for his head. He carries a dented ladle like a weapon and wears a string of scorched spoons as a “badge of office.”
Quirks:

  • Constantly mutters about “secret ingredients” (usually gunpowder or rum).

  • Doesn’t eat much himself — “too busy tasting for poison.”

  • Keeps a pet crab named Snippy, who sometimes stirs the stew.
Specialty Dish: Boiling Sea Stew — a mystery soup that’s always spicy, filling, and suspiciously bubbling.

2. Grebba “Star-Eye” — Goblin Navigator

Race: Goblin
Role: Navigator & Stormy’s protégé
Personality: Quick-witted, fiercely loyal, and endlessly eager to impress Captain Graves. She’s small but commands the map table like a general.
Description: Lean, green, and sharp-toothed, Grebba ties her ears back with bits of twine and wears a captain’s hat two sizes too large — a gift from Stormy. Her amber eyes gleam like compass needles.
Quirks:

  • Sleeps curled up in a coil of rope near the wheelhouse.

  • Knows the stars by name and curses them like old drinking buddies.

  • Keeps meticulous charts that no one else can read — written in Goblin, Infernal, and half-mad doodles.
Relationship with Stormy: Idolizes her; mimics her stance, speech, and even hairstyle. Would die (or at least stab someone) to protect her captain’s honor.

3. Grosh “The Anchor” — Orc Muscle

Race: Orc
Role: Ship’s strongman, quartermaster, and “motivator.”
Personality: Gruff but good-natured when sober; intimidatingly silent when not. He solves most problems with his fists or by glaring until they go away.
Description: A wall of muscle with faded tattoos of sea serpents winding up his arms. His tusks are capped in brass, and he wears a sleeveless coat made from an enemy captain’s flag.
Quirks:

  • Keeps a ledger of every crate loaded — but can’t read, so it’s just tally marks.

  • Talks to the ship’s anchor when drunk; claims it answers.

  • Once broke a man’s jaw for stealing Scales’s bread rolls (and didn’t regret it).
Catchphrase: “Everything heavy comes to me.”

4. Jory “Nine-Fingers” Hale — Human Carpenter

Race: Human
Role: Ship’s carpenter & patch-up man
Personality: Dry-humored, steady, and unflappable — the kind of man who hammers a plank over a cannon hole mid-battle without flinching.
Description: Weathered, sun-browned skin; beard full of sawdust. Missing his left pinky and ring finger (“Occupational hazard,” he says). Keeps a belt of tools that jingle like wind chimes.
Quirks:

  • Always whittling tiny wooden birds and hiding them around the ship.

  • Swears the Wraith “talks” to him through the creak of her timbers.

  • Can fix almost anything — except his own love life.
Skill: Can jury-rig a mast or cannon carriage in minutes; uses rum instead of varnish because “it keeps the wood warm.”

5. Snow-on-Rope — Tabaxi Spotter

Race: Tabaxi (White-furred)
Role: Spotter / Lookout
Personality: Quiet, alert, and slightly feral. Speaks little, but when she does, her words are clipped and poetic.
Description: Sleek, white fur with faint gray stripes and piercing golden eyes. She wears fingerless gloves and a band of feathers braided into her tail. Usually perched in the crow’s nest, crouched like a hunting cat.
Quirks:

  • Scratches her claws on the wood constantly (“Keeps the luck in the mast”).

  • Sees ships on the horizon before anyone else — sometimes before dawn.

  • Dislikes loud noises and sudden movement; often communicates by gesture.
Nickname Among Crew: “The Eyes of the Wraith.”

6. Theran Tidewalker — Triton Deckhand

Race: Triton
Role: Jack-of-all-trades
Personality: Practical, stoic, and surprisingly funny once you get him talking. Serves as diver, swimmer, emergency patch-hand, and occasional helmsman.
Description: Skin the color of seawater, hair like seaweed, and eyes like polished shell. Keeps his gills hidden under a scarf when on deck. His voice has a faint echo, as though the ocean itself speaks through him.
Quirks:

  • Constantly complains that “surface air smells like old fish and bad decisions.”

  • Swims beneath the hull at night “to listen for leaks.”

  • Plays a haunting seashell flute when the weather turns calm.
Special Trait: Can breathe underwater and swim faster than the ship in a lull — often scouts ahead below the surface.

Crew Dynamic

The crew of the Tempest’s Wraith is a chaotic family, united by loyalty to Captain Stormy Graves. Scales feeds them (barely), Grebba guides them, Grosh defends them, Jory keeps the ship afloat, Snow-on-Rope spots trouble, and Theran makes sure no one drowns when things inevitably go wrong.

They bicker like siblings, boast like legends, and fight like a storm unleashed — but when Stormy shouts the order, the Wraith moves as one.
