Chuckles the Capuchin

Messenger • Performer • Suspiciously Skilled “Helper” of Jovie Sunblessed

Description

Chuckles is a small, bright-eyed capuchin monkey with creamy white fur around his head and shoulders, contrasting with dark brown limbs and tail. He wears a tiny woven vest (a gift from a dwarven tailor) and often has fruit stains on his hands and muzzle.

His golden-brown eyes are full of mischief and intelligence — too much intelligence, some might say.

He chatters constantly while working, hopping from crate to stall to awning in a blur of movement.

Connection to Jovie Sunblessed

Chuckles is the constant companion of Jovie Sunblessed, the famously warm and radiant vendor of the Grand Bazaar’s fruit stand. Jovie found Chuckles injured years ago in a caravan shipment from the south and nursed him back to health.

Now he is:

  • her helper,
  • her messenger,
  • her entertainment for children,
  • and her unofficial security system.

He sits on her shoulder during slow hours or naps atop the melon crates when he thinks no one is looking.

Duties and Talents

1. Merchant Courier

Chuckles carries:

  • messages between stalls,
  • small packages,
  • coins,
  • or fruit samples wrapped in leaves.

Jovie rings a tiny bell, and Chuckles darts off like a furry arrow, weaving through crowds with flawless agility.

He never loses a message — unless there’s a banana involved.

2. Customer Enticement

Chuckles will:

  • hold out a piece of fruit to passersby,
  • wave to children,
  • perform little spins or flips,
  • or open a crate and proudly display the freshest stock.

Jovie claims he doubles her business.

She’s not wrong.

3. Pickpocket Rumors

Some claim that:

  • their coins went missing near Jovie’s stall,
  • Chuckles is “too good with his hands,”
  • or that he’s often seen slipping trinkets into pockets or out of them.

But no one can prove anything.

Whenever accused, Chuckles:

  • freezes,
  • slowly hangs his head,
  • and emits a sad little chirp.

The crowd turns on the accuser instantly.

Jovie just smiles serenely and says,

“Chuckles only takes hearts, not coins.”

Personality

  • Bubbly, expressive, eager to show off
  • Loves children and gentle pats
  • Jealous of other animals, including Glaze the chipmunk
  • Quick to forgive, quick to steal… affection
  • Eats like a champion
  • Mimics gestures, including “shh,” waving, and bowing

Chuckles understands more Common than most dogs, and Jovie swears he understands sarcasm.
