Griswalla Stonehammer was sent by Morista Malkin to accompany a group of adventurers in the Underdark in hopes they would find information and help stop the demonic activities ongoing in the Underdark.
Later on, he was sent to accompany Sladis Vadir, a member of the Emerald Enclave who had gone insane while traveling in the Underdark.
