Located in the center of the nebula, the Dead Zone is the result of ages of warfare, travel, destruction, and wanton technological mishaps. What few planets that exist in this zone are completely devoid of life, and likely unable to sustain any in the near future. Electromagnetic discharges and radiation make travel a nightmare for even the most advanced of starships to the point of not being worth it. Still, some brave (or foolish) crews try to venture inside to salvage the expensive wreckage within. They often don't make it back.
