Raynor

The Bard

Raynor, more commonly known simply as The Bard, is one of Ratwater's most recognizable and beloved figures.  Still young by most standards, he has an air of confidence and quiet awareness of someone who has survived far more than most adventurers even hope to see.  Rarely, if ever is he seen without a smile, a story, or a mug in hand, he has beomce a fixture of the community through years of generosity, celebration, and guidance given freely to locals and travelers alike.

His estate on the eastern side of Ratwater is well known, where many a gathering providing food, drink, music, and stories whi;ch are shared openly with all townsfolk, sellswords, adventurers, and laborers with little concern for status or wealth of the individual.  Many both within Ratwater and outside owe him favors and opportunities, though few if any fully understand where his seemingly endless resources come from.  Some of the town's more prominent figures regard him as an eccentric adventurer unable to abandon old habits, the commoners hold him in far higher regard.

Despite his friendly and incredibly theatrical nature, there are rare moments when Raynor's carefree personaility completely disappears revealing a disciplined calm of a seasoned survivor.  Countless stories surround him, many so absurd that most dismiss them as exaggeration or drunk invention.  Ancient ruins beneath forgotten mountains, battles against long extince creatures, companions who have lived for centuries or millenia, impossible magic, and claims of coming from another world are a few of them.  Though Raynor never seems concerned whether people believe him or not.

Retired from active adventuring, he continues to involve himself in the lives of promising new comers, offering advice, support, equipment, or simply information when he believes it to help create grandiose stories or prevent career ending tragedies.  To many in Ratwater he is little more than an unusually charismatic bard with far too many tales and a never ending supply of coin.  Those that have seen him act when true danger shows it's face, it is clear that beneath that jovial demeanor remains an adventurer every bit capable as the legends suggest.
