Alistair is Ratwater's resident alchemist, healer, herbalist, and supplier of potions, medicines, salves and other less openly discussed concoctions. To most locals he is simply the town's doctor, an older man who has always been present whenever someone required healing, antidotes, or specialized remedies. Of course the adventurers and arena fighters know him especially well, as he frequently provides potions and practical advice to those foolish enough, or desperate enough, to survive dangers for a living.
Polite, calm, and remarkably patient, Alistair rarely draws attention to himself despite how important he is to the town. Hardly charging more than the cost of materials for everything but the most rare remedies, and appearing to genuinely be interested in helping others whenever possible. Many initially mistake him for nothing more than a very skilled herbalist who dabbles in alchemy and poisons, few ever realize how incomplete that assumption truly is.
Despite his immense knowledge, Alistair never openly seeks power or influence. Simply believing fate unfolds regardless of one's ability to intervene and manipulate outcomes. He views himself as a small part of a much larger machine, he simply plays his part in it's operation. While morally flexible in some areas, he generally leans towards helping others where he can, though he is almost certainly capable of terrible things should the need ever truly arise. Threats to Ratwater, the surrounding lands, or the balance he maintains are among the few matters able of driving him to reveal the full extent of his abilities.
Alistair has a close understanding with Raynor, whose endless appetite for stories and wandering adventurers complements Alistair's quieter desires to observe and guide, and occasional protecting the world from behind the scenes. Though they are very different in temperament, the two share similar philosophies regarding the natural order of things.
To the people of Ratwater, Alistair remains what he has always appeared to be, a quiet old alchemist who is there whenever someone needs him. And strangely, little more than that.
