Ozelan Technology

Metallurgy

Steel is made by heating Carbon-based materials with Iron in blast furnaces. Enough steel is made to be used for weaponry and the occasional cladding.

Mithral is a highly malleable metal known for its antimagic properties.

Mithsteel is an Imperial technology by heating some unknown substance with Mithral and combining it with Steel. Spies have been unable to figure out what exactly this extra material is.

Power and Automation

Magic is seen as the primary source of "power," though the longevity of enchantments tends to depend on the amount of usage. It's theorized that magically infused items have a "charge," and their use depletes from this charge. The more powerful the effect, the faster the charge drains. Hence, a sword that lights on fire tends to last a long time, as the sword only needs to expend a large amount of magic to become lit, but doesn't need as much to maintain its blaze, and when it's not in use it doesn't use any charge at all.

Magical items have also been found to be able to "recharge" themselves by taking in ambient magic, often from nearby-cast spells or magically conductive minerals such as copper. Using these theories, Senesia was host to the first platform lift that didn't need manual labor to perform. Copper rods surround a pole infused with magic attached to the underside of the platform. As the pole expended magic to push the platform upwards, the copper would absorb and redirect the magic back into the pole to keep it charged.

This breakthrough in magical technology (magitech) has allowed a variety of applications, though the size and bulk of the contraptions vary.

Explosive Powder

Black powder is made of sulfur, carbon, and potassium nitrate. The practical usage of powder has been relatively limited, due to its aftereffects. Magical items that used powder would often have its runes blasted off or damaged, and when compared to today's spells, the power is relatively low. While single-shot pistols and muskets exist, they are seen as impractical for warfare.
