"Capturing nature on the canvas is not the goal - one can see the nature for oneself. Capturing one's inner view of the nature, making the essentially subjective, objective, that is the highest art."

-Struggling Artist, Takai of Tansu

Artistic Upbringing

An Artistic Upbringing entails being brought up by someone broadly in the field of art - that is, painters, sculptors, carvers, but also non-physical artists, such as dancers, singers, musicians, poets, etc. Artists are, in many places in Adra, thought of in conflicting ways - often thought of as unnecessary and unproductive members of society (images of artists spending prime working hours in smoky cafes comes to mind to those who have these feelings), but also, constantly sought out to fill an often drab medieval world with beauty and unexpected things.

Artistic upbringings can often lead to odd-children: those raised in this fashion are often encouraged to be as creative and free-thinking as possible, to push the bounds of what is thought possible, to think outside of the box, and to find inspiration in all of life. Of course, this can often produce children that are well-prepared for the unexpected challenges that life presents - cultivating free-thinking can help with more than just painting. On the other hand, artists sometimes are so wrapped up in their own worlds, that they can lose touch with the way most people actually live - a phenomenon which can carry on to children raised in the background.

Characters from artistic upbringings have retained the finest piece of art that their parent ever produced - be it a painting, sculpture, poem, sheet music, etc. This Family Heirloom can grant you a bit of creative spark, inspiration that is, from your family. So long as you have the heirloom on your person, you may store an additional inspiration for use in a session.
