"No doubt, it is a fine oasis we have found, and we could stay here longer my child. But eventually, the water would run dry, the plants would wither, and the sun would win out in the end. Our way is to keep moving, and let the oasis rest."

-Leader of the Benaka Tribe, Balthazar son of Philosir

Nomadic Upbringing

Nomads live in wide open spaces, often with little in the way of arable land or valuable resources. The steppe, deserts, and jungles that these folk inhabit have value only in the aggregate - for example, there is great value in the steppe when one grazes cattle over hundreds of miles of it, but little value in a small patch of it. Therefore, by way of necessity, nomads must wander over huge distances, and this means having no single place to call home. They carry their homes on their packs, and will set up and take down a village 20 or more times in a year. Nomads also, by definition, exist outside of agrarian, settled cultures.

Nomadic life is worldly by its very nature - children will learn from a young age to ride a horse, drive cattle, hunt, fish, etc., and will gain the fortitude early in life necessary to travel many miles each day. A hard life like this allows little room for a 'normal' childhood to flourish in, though most nomadic children are not asked to do much above their own stature, other than moving around quite a bit. These children experience much of the year to be repetitive cycles of movement and subsistence living, punctuated by short periods of violence, usually with other nomads. Many such folk find themselves unprepared for life outside of these predictable cycles later in life - others upon experiencing city or feudal life never look back.

Characters from a Nomadic Upbringing will carry with them an absolute necessity from their childhood - a Nomad's Blanket. This blanket will be made of different material depending on the region, Auroch Fleece, Jaguar Fur, Monitor Skin, etc. The blanket can keep someone warm even during the coldest of nights, and can protect one from moisture. Wrapping oneself tightly in the blanket will grant advantage on any saving throws made against weather effects from rain, snow, or cold. Furthermore, being so wrapped up will provide resistance to cold damage. Being wrapped tightly in the blanket will also prevent movement or anything that requires the use of hands. It weighs 5lbs.
