"I grew up in the city - its where I first studied the arcane. But Sezkin taught me that this is where the real mysteries lie, not in dusty tomes, but in the hidden jungle, eternal and opaque. Perhaps one day I will return to a port and sail back to civilization - but the jungle isn't done with me yet, nor I with it."

The Wizard, Naomi de Vallehos

Frontier Experience

Life on the frontier is hard and unforgiving. Therefore, those who live through it have a number of skills and abilities they have built up through the process of their own survival. Few have any chance of surviving this without a mentor, and survivalists, guides, tribal elders, hunters, rangers, druids, and outdoorsmen of all stripes are to be sought out for their stewardship along the way to self-sufficiency. To some, such experience comes easy, particularly to those who were born on the frontier.

Those who have been hardened in the furnace of the wilds are often seen as tough, reliable, and capable. Particularly to those who have never seen the wilderness or lived on the borderlands, those who have seem like part cowboy part maniac. However, any such experience is likely to leave someone uncouth, or barbaric, no doubt? Such assumptions by "civilized" folk often lead to those who have gained such experience to be marked as wildmen and wildwomen.

Having lived for months or even years in the borderlands, those with frontier experience should feel well-prepared, or at least better prepared than most to take on a life of adventure. The issues they have had to deal with in their past will often lead them to take care when preparing for any trip away from a settlement. Their experience with a hard-life however might sometimes put them at odds with the ways of city-living - particularly when such ways require subtlety and refined manners.
