"Perhaps more than language, or land, or soldiers, it is a calendar that shows how wide one's influence goes. The Arissian Calendar is used in most of Adra Majoris, in places where they don't rule anymore, and in some where they never technically ruled to begin with. Those folks had their own calendars, once upon a time. Now, just dust in the wind."

-The Mayor of Haldoor, Esther Hildeburg

The Common Imperial Calendar

The Common Imperial Calendar was constructed with the official founding of the Arissian Empire. In truth, the Imperializing of Arissia was a slow process, and the "official founding" was a date retroactively decided upon, as when the Senate heralded Cassius Senna, the first emperor, to be First Senator. That date marked the founding of the 2nd Era, the 1st Era being everything up to that point. The 3rd Era began with the fall of Aegyr to the dragon invasion, another date chosen retroactively, which the calendar was shifted to reflect.

1st Era: The first era has no finite start point - its years are measured backwards from the end of the 1st Era, so that, for example, 252 1E is 252 years before the formation of the Arissian Empire. Some stop using the Era system to count backwards at 10,000 1E, the legendary date for the creation of the Black Reach.

2nd Era: 1,325 Years Long.

3rd Era: 322 Years Long and counting.
