Aasimar
Key Similarities with Faerun's Version
- Aasimar are gifted with a touch of divinity. Their blood runs with divine power.
- Aasimar are naturally beautiful - indeed, their beauty is so famous that some people use aasimar as a compliment for someone who looks particularly well-dressed or nice looking, when they aren't actually aasimar. Their beauty is however, somewhat alien, akin to the beauty of the elves. Furthermore, they are often blessed with something subtle that enhances their charisma or force of personality - perhaps a beautiful voice, or especially silky and brightly colored hair, or a natural sweet-smelling odor.
- Aasimar have pupil-less eyes that are distinctive colors. The color of the eyes correspond to the alignment of the deity whose power courses through their veins:
Lawful | Neutral | Chaotic | |
Good | Gold | Pink | Bronze |
Neutral | Silver | White w/ Speckles of Black | Green |
Key Differences with Faerun's Version
- Aasimar can be born to any race in Adra. So, aasimar can have human qualities, dwarven qualities, elven qualities, etc. Not all aasimar look human.
- They are never descended from a celestial. Aasimar are born to mortals, whose ancestors were all mortals. Rather, aasimar in Adra are touched with the divine - sometimes by happenstance, but usually by divine providence.
- Aasimar are usually touched by a specific god, and that god may be from any pantheon that is not headed up by an evil deity (so that some aasimar are gifted by neutral gods).
- Aasimar are pulled towards the service of the god whose power has blessed them. Still, many aasimar break away from this natural inclination towards a given religion and alignment in order to feel like they are in control of their destiny.
Subraces of Aasimar
- Fallen Aasimar: Those aasimar that not only turn away from the divine providence which has guided them since birth, but turn to evil purposes, or more often, evil gods. Fallen Aasimar tend to have their celestial nature twisted completely by the divine forces of evil, making them some of the most cruel folks to walk the land.
- Protector Aasimar: These aasimar are called to defend and preserve something important to the divine hand that guides them. This might be the innocent, forces of good, or often simply the clergy and apparatuses of the god's faith on earth. Most often, protector aasimar can be found living and working at religious sites, such as a temple or monastery.
- Scourge Aasimar: These aasimar are called to lead a a crusade in the world, to use their powers in stopping something foul to the divine hand that guides them. These might be evil villains, the forces of evil, or the very mechanisms in society that create the things which are anathema to a given god or pantheon. Scourge aasimar are usually found traveling on the open road, always called to keep up the crusade.
