Goblin

Key Similarities with Faerun's Version

  • Goblins are the namesake and most populous member of the group of Kith known as Goblinoids. Goblins have, for as long as histories care to mention them, been troublesome creatures to the majority of other Kith in Adra. Whether the reputation is earned or unfair, folks in a number of cultures look down on Goblins at best, and hate them at worst. Goblins are enslaved in mass in Kelior, while in Zaltia, goblins are usually killed on sight by the human settlers there.
  • Goblins are short, green, and scary looking. They tend to have heads that are much larger in proportion to their bodies, with huge green or yellow eyes, long ears, and sharp claws. Their skin is famously green in hue, and goblins can grow hair, but usually can't grow much of it, with what they do grow usually looking patchy. Perhaps more than anything, the marker of goblins are their razor sharp teeth. Rumors spread by humans say that they sharpen their teeth, but in truth, the teeth are naturally sharp. These qualities make goblins look quite scary, or at least monstrous, even to those who aren't aware of their negative reputation.
  • Either by nature, or necessity, goblins seem to take to war very well. While smaller and weaker than many other Kith, including the other goblinoids, goblins make up for that with their numbers, and their tendency to group together. Often, picking a fight with one goblin means picking a fight with thirty of them. That being said, many actual goblin societies come to be ruled by the strongest creature who is able to speak the language, and that is often a hobgoblin or in rare cases, a bugbear.

Key Differences with Faerun's Version

  • Goblins did not age at the rate that other races did. Indeed, it is vanishingly rare to find a goblin with grey hair or wrinkled skin. This is not random, but instead a byproduct of the goblins' worst curse - their tendency to get life threatening tumors and cancers. It is these tumors that end up ending the lives of most goblins long before they begin to age naturally.
