Half-Orc
Key Similarities with Faerun's Version
- Half-Orcs are a hybrid of one orc parent and one human parent. They tend to share the features of both races, with skin that is almost always some hue of green or grey, though muted when compared to full-blooded orcs, and much more hair on their heads than orcs as well. Their body shape is far more in line with humans typically than with orcs, though still larger and more muscular than most humans. Their most pronounced orcish trait is usually their tusks, which while diminutive when compared with orc tusks, are usually still pronounced enough to protrude past the lips.
- Half-Orcs are usually considered too weak and fragile to keep up in a tribe of full-blooded orcs, while prejudices towards the so-called monstrous races will make life for half-orcs in human societies difficult. Therefore, they are often drawn to the frontiers of human civilization, where their orcish blood is viewed as suited to the brutal environment, while still having enough human in them to be trusted by the local settlers.
Key Differences with Faerun's Version
- Orcs and Humans are the two races in Adra most able to hybridize with others. Because of this, versatility as it were, half-orcs are the most likely of such pairings to result in offspring, with most humans and orcs, with enough effort, being able to produce children - which is unusual when compared to the other pairings of hybrid races, such as dwarves and humans for example. Because of this, folks in larger cities should not be unfamiliar with half-orcs. Even still, half-orcs have never been overly common, because the number of human-orc relationships are quite rare, with prejudices between the two peoples being very common.
