Lizardfolk
Key Similarities with Faerun's Version
- Lizardfolk are large humanoid lizards, as their name would suggest, usually taking on the appearance of something like a large walking crocodile or kamodo dragon. Their scales tend to be in more earthen shades, such as brown, tan, or in shades of green or black, or some pattern of those colors. Their eyes are particularly distinct, possessing the same sharp pupils as a reptile, and usually with a forked tongue. These features have caused lizardfolk to be sometimes confused with Yuan-ti, which might make people in more rural communities wary of them until they learn more.
- In general, lizardfolk are accustomed to life in wetlands and other humid environments, such as rainforests. There is nothing that will physically stop them from leaving these regions, but the dryer the location becomes, the more uncomfortable and irritable most lizardfolk are likely to become as a result.
- Lizardfolk are a highly prized martial race, so along with races like hobgoblins and goliaths, many nations in Adra will utilize lizardfolk as bodyguard or mercenary companies.
Key Differences with Faerun's Version
- Lizardfolk are one of the descendants of the ancient Dragonkin, along with the kobolds and the dragonborn. Lizardfolk are the farthest removed from the appearance and abilities of the original dragonkin, since their original ancestors moved to confines of swamplands, and this slowly produced the modern lizardfolk of today.
- While Lizardfolk are traditionally some of the best survivalists in Adra, they often have settlements of their own, spread out across the swamps, and refuges of travelers and merchants trying to cross the formidable swamplands of Adra, most usually the Far Bogs.
