Reborn

Key Similarities with Faerun's Version

  • Reborn are Kith in Adra that have died, and then, through the conspiracies of magic users, the blessings of gods, or the swirling incantations of fate, are reborn again. They tend to be forever altered by the experience, both physically and mentally. Reborn will appear as typical members of their race, except that there will be odd deformities or other signs of their traumatic past - stitches or stich scars, a glass eye, fake hair, a mismatched arm or leg, severe burns, or arcane sigils on the skin, to name a few. The physical alterations will depend largely on the way in which the reborn came back to this world.
  • Reborn are distinct from Kith who have merely been resurrected or revivified via divine magic. Instead, they are brought back to the world in farm more extreme and unusual ways, usually when the traditional divine ways of doing so are not possible. In some cases, reborn are in fact a combination of various individuals, into a kind of Frankenstein-amalgamation, resulting in a completely new person with very complicated origins.
  • The trauma of this restoration will lead to a change in the mental faculties of the reborn person. Even if they are still basically the same person that they were in life, a reborn might have slight changes to their personality (for example, someone who was once introverted might find themselves constantly looking to party), and will usually have damage to their memories. Reborn will struggle to fully pull together the memories from their former life, or lives in some cases, and might continuously attempt to reconstruct their path as they come to terms with their present.

Key Differences with Faerun's Version

  • The degree to which a reborn might seem different than others of their race will depend largely upon the circumstances of their rebirth. While many are now undead, or something like undead, needing not to breath or eat or even sleep, others may have fully or mostly had their life restored to them, with regular or semi-regular bodily functions.
  • The reborn, once created, are in a precarious position, as overtime, the magic and technology that hold them together will begin to either loosen and fail, or otherwise will take its toll on the still mortal body of the reborn. Whatever age a reborn was before their demise doesn't matter, and from the moment they are created, they usually have around 25 years left before their new body fails - some less, some more. This often drives reborn to make the most of the time given to them, and to reconstruct their past before their future arrives. (It is recommended that reborn players keep two records of age - one from their first birth (if applicable), and one from their "rebirth".)
