10th of Rot
The Reclaimants set out early in the morning to investigate Pinna's cottage and search for tracks. While Leith was able to identify some tracks he couldn't make heads or tails of them until Aurent found a converging path away from the cottage. Inside the cottage, Pinna's items were in a disarray, which Deirdre attempted to tidy. Bean's located a hissing gray cat under Pinna's bed which Aurent hypothesized might be Pinna's familiar. The cat began following the tracks that Aurent found, further giving credence to this suspicion and the fact that this may lead to where the goblins are hiding out.
Eventually, the party came upon a cave with a cleverly hidden entrance due to the angling of the rock. Leith scouted ahead down the tunnel entrance, hopping to give the party a better idea of what they were going up against, but was unfortunately spotted by two hobgoblins which sprung into action. They party rushed to Leith's aid but he was unfortunately downed by several heavy blows. Deirdre sent forth a terrifying visage to the hobgoblin closest to Leith, causing him to begin to run in fear. Aurent, in his typically flurry of light and blade, obliterated the offending hobgoblin. Tanythe administered a healing draught to Leith which got him back onto his feet in a mostly fighting condition. It was a harrowing battle, with Aurent also going down after getting stuck in a bear trap, but in the end the Reclaimants prevailed. The bear traps were collected and placed strategically so that the party could heal up before re-entering the cave.
As the party continued deeper into the cave, Tanythe noted that there were old carvings etched into the stone. They appeared to be directions pointing to some kind of meeting room and a storage room. The sign pointed to a dead end but the party was able to identify a secret door and inside found many stolen goods from the peasants. The party made note of this and planned to return for the later and continued towards the meeting room. Unfortunately, Leith was not able to identify a pressure plate that Aurent stepped on in time and the party was assaulted by spears, causing both Leith and Beans to go down again. Realizing that these goblins were much more strategic than they had originally thought, they decided to retreat back to the town to lick their wounds and try to come up with a better strategy for infiltrating their hideout.
TLDR: Hobgoblins fucking suck yo, we're really bad at finding traps, big yikes
