Calliope has spent over 500 years with Versi hidden away from the world; though, before leaving to find the other Heroes, she had no idea of just how long she had spent with the Oracle and no memory of the life she lived before. Unsurprisingly, as the Nymph has been the centre of her world for as long as she can remember, Calliope loves Versi and trusts her implicitly.
With no real-world experiences to draw from, at least not anymore, it is fair to say that Calliope did not particularly appreciate the importance of the quest and the dangers the group might face at the beginning. But this very quickly changed upon the group’s arrival in Estoria.
Calliope now finds herself both in awe of the outside world, and heartbroken by all the problems it seems to be facing. She holds a fair amount of guilt for having ‘run away’ from Thylea and its issues, and is determined to do her best to save it.
As the group travel, Calliope has begun to remember things; though her memories of the past are fragmented and disjointed. She now finds herself caught between the desperate desire to know more, and fear of the pain that Versi has warned her will follow if she remembers her past.
The clearest memories she has, and the ones that haunt her dreams the most, are of her time spent as a slave on Yonder before meeting and being rescued by Versi.
At some point after that, Calliope knows she befriended and worked with the Dragonlords though she remembers little of it. She assumes this is how she met Damon; whom she is certain she cared for dearly, having now remembered a little of their past together.
She also now knows that, although she cannot remember them, her flock hailed from a small village called Elefthe that was destroyed in the war during a battle between the Dragonlords and the Titan’s forces. Of everything, she is most scared of remembering this, as even just hearing the village’s name brings tears to her eyes.
