Letter
Letter to Versi (#15)
(Written in a break between discussing/arguing about what we should do after finding the Lady of Coins’ hideout.)

My lovely Versi,

I trust that my last letter was amusing for you, if not particularly informative: I really don’t think I will ever be one of those bards that does their best work while under the influence! I have much more to tell you in this letter though. Today has been rather eventful.

Now that the slavery situation in Mytros is quelled we have finally had a moment to start our search for Theo’s old flame, Nyx. Taran Neurdagon was able to point us towards one of the local inns, the Satyr's Tail, that some members of the Cult of the Snake frequent.

Braz used magic to scout it out first, and then the rest of us used various personas throughout the afternoon to try and find out more information. And we were successful! At least, sort of.

Theo got drunk and made friends with some sailors; Alke deepened her connection with one of Lutheria’s priests; and Braz and Helikaon kept watch outside. For my own part, I made friends with the tavern’s bard, Fryxon. I actually managed to get him to all but confirm the allegiances of a pair of tavern patrons. Unfortunately, in the process, he also rather loudly revealed that we were talking about them.

They didn’t like that.

Luckily, Hippofilius was hidden nearby as a spider at the time; so when one left to go and inform the Lady of Coins that I had been snooping around, he was able to latch onto his cloak and follow him right to their hideout.

The others then left one by one to meet him; Alke even gave the other agent a message for the Lady of Coins on her way out! I tell you, that woman is an absolute force of nature at times. Singularly minded and ever so good at getting what she wants.

But I was in a tighter spot. The eyes of the man left behind were fixed on me and it was clear he was going to follow me wherever I ended up going.

So I decided I would try to lose him. I would fly to the Temple of the Five and then wait for information about where to meet the others.

That probably wasn’t the smartest decision. After all, if I hadn’t lost the man following me he could very easily of set-up an ambush in the time I was waiting for the others. By Thylea, he could probably have just shot me down from the sky if he was so inclined! I mean, I was literally told he was a criminal: his whole skillset is basically sneaking around unseen, following people… suffice to say I was feeling fairly foolish by the time I landed again.

I really can not express how relieved I was when Helikaon showed up at the temple. I was trying to hide my nerves but, by the time he arrived, I had all but worn a groove in the floor from pacing. You know, they could have just sent a message to let me know I should meet them back at the Siren’s Roost: but instead he came all the way across the city from the docks to come and get me. I really should thank him.

In any case, we are now all back safely at the Siren’s Roost. And, for all our trouble, we can’t decide what to do. Our conversations are just going round and round in circles while we wait to see if the Lady of Coins will meet with us. We’re taking a moment to clear our heads, which is why I am writing to you, but it is unclear what our next steps should be.

But I am sure we will figure out something. We always do.

With love,

Calliope
