Xanthia reckons names hold power, they define your destiny. Golden bird is what hers is. Explains the swiftness of the one that got first up the Mountain. Quite appropriate, especially given that she’s come to us all the way across the sea from the Island of Exiles. I’m not sold on the power of names though, or the idea that someone chooses your path before you’re even born. In Xanthia’s case you do wonder whether someone chose her path or whether the name and her story aligned out of sheer luck. Or maybe it’s far more subtle: the name gave her the courage to leave the island itself...

My name they say means courage. Isn’t that a laugh!? There’s proof that names have NO power. Brave is not something I feel like. I’m not even sure the young Alke was brave, she was just oblivious to her own selfishness and the consequences of her actions.

When we arrived in Mytros, I found this recipe of sorts in the library. A magical recipe, part enchantment, part ingredients list. Strange ingredients, but all with rare and magical properties. I think something could be crafted out of this. I think I could adapt it by including Calliope’s magical lily leaf to make something that would make her performances even more dazzling. That one time I’ve seen her sing to an audience in the Satyr’s Tail everyone was just mesmerised. But most importantly, I think I may be able to make something similar to the disguise scarf Master Oriin lent me ages ago. That saved me. I owe him so much more than a scarf, but this is a start. So it’ll be a good project for me to get my hands on...

Though I do have an idea to try in the Forge for when we get there.
