Great Games Notes (#6)
(To remember everything happening during the games, so that she might write songs about it later, Calliope has taken some notes. Or, at least, she has attempted to.)
[Written after the Sailing.]
Oh, Gods, I am feeling rather dizzy still! The others clear blasted me out of the sky during the sailing… by accident of course! Or at least I hope it was…
We didn’t win. But at least I got to spend time with some of the Siren on the Harp Bridge! They were all so lovely…. I should have gone to see them sooner; and I really wish I had! But, and I hate to admit it, I had been avoiding visiting. I was afraid that being around other Siren would bring out memories I might regret. Memories of home.
No more though. I… I really can’t keep letting my fear of the past keep dictating my future.
[Written after the Relay.]
It occurred to me, while flying up a cliff that everyone else was struggling to climb, that I am the only Siren in the Great Games. Out of all of the nations competing, all the athletes, there is just me. I don’t know if that is odd... but it certainly struck me as sad. I guess most Siren flocks still keep themselves to themselves?
In any case, the others didn’t seem to have quite as peaceful a time as me during the relay. Between lions, harpies, and a frozen lake, they all seemed rather frazzled! Alke in particular was so nervous... I tried to reassure her, gifting her a little of my magic as I passed the baton to calm her nerves, but in the face of hot coals and fire snakes, I suspect that it wasn’t much help! She did admirably though; everyone did!
