Letter to Chalcia
(Written after Fire Island.)
Chalcia,
I am glad to have met you. Meeting proof that the Twins have not changed, and are perhaps incapable of it, is oddly comforting. I don’t relish fighting or violence but, more and more, it seems like this will all end in death. Peace does not seem achievable without bloodshed and I hate it - but if Sydon and Lutheria’s terrible wills have not wavered in millenia… well, maybe we are just slightly more justified in our actions.
I suppose it is odd for me write a letter to you; to keep writing letters the recipients will never be able to read. But I used to write letters a lot during the war - to try and keep the ones I loved abreast of my safety, and to ensure theirs - and I find it a rather cathartic practice now, even if there is no one to read my words.
I do wish you might have stayed, helped us. Though I understand and certainly did not expect it of you. It is just that everything is so uncertain. Our allies in this ordeal feel so few and far between and the help of someone that knows Sydon and Lutheria so intimately would have been a boon. But I cannot begrudge you your freedom, nor your rest. I hope you find happiness wherever you end up.
I suppose I hope we do too.
Your friend, if you would allow me to call you so,
Calliope
