Calliope - Session 94

Song
A Torch Home
(Tune: a soulful ballad.)

I’ll light a torch, to guide you home 1
But it is up to you to follow
The light, the pain, the pull
The lure of the past

I promise you, you can go back,
You need not keep moving on
You can’t keep burying in the sand 2
What you’ve already buried
It’s time to dig it up

Forgiveness is as natural a mistake
As sure as the lotus blooms
And though may sting to face her 3
Just as once you left, you can return
And find the truth behind the feeling

So I’ll light a torch, to guide you home
But it is up to you to follow
The light, the pain, the pull
The lure of the past

Again and again
Give in to the ache
Let it carry, carry, carry you
Carry you home

Footnotes

Hippofilius seemed uncertain about returning home. As much of a pull as he must feel towards this place, it would seem his shame is stronger. If it were not for the fact that we had to be here for Braz, I do wonder if he would have had us avoid visiting altogether.

With beautiful beaches and colourful fauna, this island seems rather pleasant… if you ignore the gigantic feral scorpions! Oh, I shouldn’t be so flippant though - some of the scorpions we faced may have been former flock mates of Hippofilius. It is awful to think that is the fate that awaits any centaur that doesn’t want to swear themselves to an Aresian on this island…

I shouldn’t have been listening, but I heard Hippofillius ask after a woman. I am not sure I heard correctly, but his father - or, I suppose, step-father? - seemed to imply she was with the Lotus Witch. I hope that is a better situation than it sounds…
