Letter to Versi (#22)
(Written in the Lotus Witch’s tower while everyone else was speaking to her.)
Versi,
Oh, this tower is unnerving.
The Lotus Witch let us in and met with us - which is good I suppose - but she would only allow us to speak with her if we each answered her questions correctly. “For history is the most important thing”, she said.
Braz got his question wrong.
So that meant she would only speak to six of the seven of us and only answer six questions. Yet Braz really needed to speak to her... so there was only really one thing to be done: I gave up my question instead.
I should have liked to speak with her too, but I think I would need a thousand questions to answer all the unknowns in my life. Plus, for all we fight with each other, I wouldn’t see Braz lose this opportunity. He needs the knowledge more than me, his flock hangs in the balance, after all.
So now I am alone here in this tower, waiting for them all to come back… thinking about the children - the people - trapped downstairs. The Lotus Witch seems to be keeping them here to do her bidding. They are not exactly children - they actually seem to be adults she has somehow turned into toddlers - but they do not seem to be here willingly.
It doesn’t seem right that we are not going to do something about them. But, if I was to try and do something now, goodness knows what the Lotus Witch would do with the others. I can only hope they are safe…
I wonder where they have gone? There are multitudes of windows in this tower, portals to locations all across Thylea. I wonder if they have gone to one of those places? Most looked… inhospitable. We dropped some marked coins through those windows, actually, in the hope that we might find this tower again if we were ever to find ourselves in any of those places. A long shot, I am certain - but everything up until now has felt rather improbable, so who knows?
Oh, I hope they are back soon.
