That tradition started in the north-eastern dwarf tribes of Karlo. They used their beard as a gesture of status. A common punishment for failure or for lack of valor was cutting the perpetrator's beard, so, the longer the beard, the most amount of time had passed since their last transgression, the more reliable clanmembers they were. With beard longer beards, a sense of pride emerged, and thus, ornamentation.
