On the border of the Murmuring Plains, Kane's Watch is the northernmost site under the banner of the Irid Eye. The prison incarcerates those the Asharian Federation considers too dangerous to allow near civilization, but too valuable to kill; powerful mages, political prisoners, and traitors are the most common kind of inmate banished to this remote dungeon. The complex is built almost entirely below ground, with only the entryway, barracks, and a ward reserved for the least dangerous (or most well-mannered) prisoners protruding from the frigid tundra.

A handful of specialized cells were fabricated in the early days of the fortress' existence to contain magic-users, which was later expanded to comprise an entire ward following the Mage Rebellion. Murandrum, a synthesized lead alloy that produces a potent anti-magic aura, is fashioned into the bars and walls of these units. While within, an imprisoned mage's abilities are wholly inaccessible to them; it is also thought that the suppression of their latent power can induce ill effects in these prisoners over the long-term, including abnormal degeneration of muscles, limbs, sensory organs, and internal organs, as well as various mental illnesses. In many cases inmates present with similar symptoms of the condition known as "Magician's Madness" (normally caused by lengthy exposure to lead and lead-infused substances), though the deterioration caused by this condition is far more acute and aggressive when induced by murandrum rather than lead.
