The Socialist Republic of Vietnam is a country located in the northern end of Vietnam, but which has also militarily occupied Laos. They are led by General-Secretary Ho Chi Minh, a legendary guerilla fighter and political activist, considered by many as a father of the nation. For practically all of Vietnam's existence they have been fighting gruesome, long battles against foreign invaders. The Chinese, Mongols, Japanese, French and most recently the Germans. While an unrecognised government by the UN, all countries within the Soviet and Chinese spheres recognise North Vietnam as independent, and have been providing it with endless weaponry and aid since 1945. The Germans have recently delegated more of their fighting to their allied Americans, bringing yet another impossible enemy. Yet they continue fighting with a never-ending spirit, a never-extinguishing flame fuelled by a desire to be free. Out of all the wars of the era, it is this struggle for independence that defines what the mid-1960s are for the world; the Vietnam War.
