The German Empire

The German Empire is the last of many things. The last great European power, the last great European monarchy, and the last great colonial empire. Though its scientific institutions have never been sharper, its armies have never been better equipped, and its economy has never been more productive, it is rotting from the inside. The modern world does not want it to exist. Though Germany survived the Weltkrieg, the National Socialist conspiracy and the second Weltkrieg, it has been pushed to the sidelines of the conflict it might finally collapse on; the Cold War. Nationalist and communist guerillas seek independence through armed struggle all throughout the Empire, while at home left-wing and right-wing agitators, as well as radical republicans, challenge the Hohenzollerns' carefully crafted political balance. All while guarding its enormous eastern border, for the ghost of revolution might one day march back west, armed with massed tank formations and atomic bombs.
