The M-10 was one of the Soviet Union's corps and army level heavy artillery, concentrated in huge batteries for the one decisive cannonade. When employed in this manner, it was feared by the Germans like a god of thunder, able to decimate an entire region in preparation for an armoured breakthrough. After the war it formed the basis for other Soviet howitzers of 152mm calibre, though the M-10 itself was stockpiled en masse or sold.
