The BTR-60 is a Soviet armoured personnel carrier that entered service in 1959. It was the first in a series of eight-wheeled APCs that were used by the Soviet Army and its allies in various conflicts. The BTR-60 has a welded steel hull with sloped armour and is powered by two gasoline engines. It is an amphibious vehicle that can carry up to 14-16 passengers. Earlier variants were open-topped and lacked a turret, though they have largely been upgraded in Soviet service to the BTR-60PB standard, which is armed with a 14.5mm machinegun and has an armoured roof.
