The Ferozen have their origins as a subspecies of Homo Erectus developing from isolation in Tasmania after their main population in Australia died from the Great Plague. Due to unknown reasons, they never moved from the island and evolved characteristics similar to those of the Homo Sapiens though with a much larger build, faster sexual maturity and natural aggression. Hair and skin colour varies massively depending on geographical area, from very pale through a greenish tint to dark brown. A great migration occurred in the 1st century known as the Ferozen Invasion, sparking a great continent-spanning struggle.
Ferozen peoples tend to be aggressive and violent but rather cheerful even in great misery. They account for about 35% of the population. The more volatile genetic history of the Ferozen allows them to be so different from other populations, generally possessing the following mutations:
- Extremely adaptable melatonin content. A charcoal-dark Ferozen man living in the hottest part of the Great Sandy Desert may turn snow white after living a few decades in the mounts of the Great Dividing Range. Mutations are common.
- Highly developed skeletomuscular system, probably a result of natural selection in the Tasmanian jungle highlands.
- Enormous testosterone content, even in females. Causes relatively higher aggression.
- Fast maturity, a Ferozen man will reach complete maturity around the age of 16 compared to 18 for Homo Sapiens.
- Highly developed immune system, certain toxins and pathogens may not affect them. On the other hand, certain substances harmless for Homo Sapiens may be harmful for the Ferozen.
- Higher pain threshold and resistance to trauma.
- Faster metabolism, Ferozen body temperatures are slightly higher because their cells consume energy faster. This demands more food and water, while leaving them vulnerable to heat stroke if they do not rest and cool down enough (a deadly weakness in Australia of all places). However, it also allows for agility and speed comparable to Homo Sapiens despite their significantly larger size and weight.
- Natural prowess with engineering. Psychologists believe the Ferozen have a superior neurological capability to deeply understand interconnected mechanisms in physical space, allowing them to jury-rig machinery from scrap.
- Shorter lifespans, Ferozen people typically live around 60 years when medication and care would allow a person to live around 80.
- Higher rates of cancer overall.
- More prone to mental disorders.
