Alpha-class Unidentified Creatures, known in Oceanykan folklore as "the Watchers", are extremely elusive humanoid beings. Only one photograph exists, taken at a distance of about 50 metres, by a psychic paranormal researcher who had covered his body in programmed spells to keep going and take a picture after death. They stand at about four meters tall and have no recognisable physical features outside of "holes" that go through their torso. Watchers have, without a single failure, been spotted in the vicinity of an area where another eldritch creature would soon emerge and cause havoc. They are highly perceptive and can spot a man sneaking behind them from a kilometre away. The Watchers can immediately shut down the nervous system of any creature in their visage through a psychic overcharge, an ability which they only use in self-defence. Projectile weapons only seem to punch small holes through them which quickly patch up, while explosive and incendiary weapons only deform them in ways one would expect from clay figures, but cause no damage. Radiological, chemical and biological weapons also proved useless. After seemingly scouting an area for a few minutes, they always disappear without leaving a trace.
Nobody is sure of what they are or why they are here. However, the leading theory is that they are extradimensional beings. Their motives, according to paranormal researchers, may be the following.
- They are benevolent creatures, appearing at sites where an eldritch being would emerge to warn humans in advance.
- They are neutral creatures, observing both humanity and eldritch creatures from afar, both being wholly unrelated to them.
- They are malevolent creatures, being the creators of all hostile "unidentified creatures", and seeking to damage human civilisation for an unknown objective.
